Why does my spouse need to sign off on my life insurance beneficiaries?

Insurance regulations can be interesting. Here’s an example:
Did you know that your spouse needs to sign off if you designate anyone else as your life insurance beneficiary?
“What a pain!” you say. “My spouse is busy right now and I just want to get through this damned paperwork.”
“Take a chill pill!” you say. “They’re OUR kids! My spouse would want them to have it.”
“How rude!” you say. “I can designate whoever I damned well please.”
“Butt out!” you say. “My spouse is a frigid b*tch, my children are greedy trolls, and my side piece is the only one who’s nice to me.”

And there you have it.
That’s why you need your spouse to sign off on your life insurance policy.
Because if you croak, life insurance doesn’t want to get in the middle of your family drama.
And, to be fair, everyone else in your risk pool shouldn’t have to pay higher premiums to create the budget for your soap opera.
See? Isn’t insurance exciting?
