Can I really be my "authentic" self at work?

Remember how weird it was to hear your partner’s "work voice" for the first time at the beginning of the pandemic?

If you have a different voice for work and personal, which one is the “real” you?

Hopefully both.

This was the idea Krista LaneAnnE Diemer, and I started with when we decided to create HR Peep Show, a conversation that peeks behind the curtain of what really happens in HR.

Speaking for myself, I'd rather put toothpicks under my toenails and kick rocks than listen to my own voice. I once ghosted a paid workshop to avoid having watching a video of myself presenting in front of the group.

So hosting a podcast was a big step.

But the conversations Krista, AnnE's and I were having couldn't influence anything if we were only talking to ourselves.

We each have our own voice.

Not that bland, polished, HR voice that performs respect by never expressing an opinion. Strong opinions on how companies’ decisions shape our lives in meaningful ways.

About authenticity: It doesn’t mean “bringing your whole self to work,” but it doesn’t NOT mean that, either.
